Tensions over the use of the great Trade Road, connecting the Latin Empire to the supply of Electrum far to the north, have placed pressure on the Celtic and Germanic Kingdoms. Rather than go to war, the newly crowned King Garbhan of Boham seeks to build a road through the Kingdom of Vandalis that connects in Kalisia with the rest of the Trade Road. He has offered the hand of his eldest daughter, Saoirse, to the grieving Prince Jorlin, who lost his first wife two years previous. But the caravan of the princess is waylaid on the road by Baron Flotow’s men in the Kingdom of Mundur. All but one of the guards are killed and the princess taken.
